Create your own Fancy Customization

You have understood how to create a ancy customization from a template and how to link it with one of your Shopify products. Now you want to start creating your own customizations so that your customers can personalize your own products.

The process is similar to template creation. Switch to the “Customizations” tab and click on “Add Product”. Insert the title you want to give your first fancy customization and click “Confirm”.

If you want you can hover over the thumbnail to insert an image of the product you want to create to make it easier to find it in the list afterward. You can either choose a previously uploaded image or upload a new one:

After your first product is created, you have to create the views of it in order to have something to show in the designer. You decide how many views you want to create, that depends on the structure of your product. To create the first view, click the first button on the right side:

After setting up the view with a name and an image, you can start to actually build this view of the customization and thereby everything your customers will see in the designer. On the right-hand side, click the first button “Open in Product Builder”:

Let’s say, you want to create a custom poster. We are in the Product Builder which will now show an empty canvas that we want to fill. We start creating the poster by uploading a background image of a poster as the first layer:

Now the canvas shows the first (and lowest) layer, the poster. Make sure each layer you add to your customization has a title. With the image added you will see different options you have to make changes to your layer. Options specific to the selected layer appear on the right side. You can adjust the size and placement of the element as well as many other details. On the left side, you can see the general View Options. Here you can adjust aspects related to the whole view, like the canvas size.

Of course, your customers should be able to put an image, text, or something else on that poster.

To enable that, you can create an upload zone on that poster as an additional layer. To add, click on “Upload Zone” and then upload a placeholder for this upload zone into the gallery. Select it and position it on the poster image on the canvas afterward.

Alternatively or additionally, you can create a text element on that notebook as an additional layer. To add, click on “Text” and choose the title. The title will be used as the text of the element by default but it can be changed.

Select and position the text element on the poster image in the canvas. You can make adjustments in the toolbar and in the options on the right side.

You will add layers depending on the structure of your customization. The leftmost layer is the lowest, the rightmost layer is the highest.

Under “View Options” > "Print Ready Export" you can define the area of the customization that should be printed (the area that holds the customization) if you have a professional or premium subscription. You have to set the measurements of this printing box to exactly define the physical size of the printing area:

More options, also for the basic plan, can be found under “View options” as well.

Now that we have created our first own Fancy customization, we have to link it to one of the Shopify products in our shop to make the designer with the product available in the frontend. All you have to do is switch to the “Shopify Connections” tab and assign this Fancy customization to it. By clicking on the icon on the right, you can see your new product in action:

If you want to check out the product we created in this article you can check it out in our demo store here. It will also show how our designer can be integrated into your product page.
