Export methods explained

Modified on Mon, 23 Oct 2023 at 11:08 AM

In the PRO export feature, you have the choice between two distinct export methods: SVG2PDF and Node Canvas.

SVG2PDF

Functionality

This method embeds the SVG views directly into the PDF. Consequently, text layers are displayed as genuine text within the PDF.

Limitations

  1. The library employed for this export doesn't support certain text properties. The unsupported properties include:

     - Curved Text

     - Drop Shadow

     - Text Opacity

     - Text Patterns

  2. Exporting bitmaps (either JPEG or PNG) can occasionally result in errors because the PDF is transformed into an image.

  3. Given that the PDF comes with a white background, all white pixels are omitted in the PNG export. Therefore, if your design contains white pixels, they will appear transparent in the exported file.

Recommendation

Opt for this method if your primary goal is to export to a PDF with true text layers, and you can overlook the unsupported features.

Node Canvas

Functionality

Node Canvas is our latest export tool, designed to rectify most of the issues encountered in SVG2PDF. Its bitmap export capability is both enhanced and quicker. Plus, it supports all the text properties that SVG2PDF misses out on.

Limitations

The only drawback is that text gets exported as a bitmap image rather than actual text.

Choose the method that best suits your requirements, taking into account the functionalities and limitations of each option.

You can easily toggle between both methods in the PROExport settings.
