I noticed on the hat demo that the stage is much larger than the front end UI. I have a product that is on a larger stage that needs to be displayed in the smaller UI area. I am sure this is a simple fix but can not figure out how to do this.

There should be no problem with that, the setting from the UI & Layout Composer will in that case simply be overruled by the products setting. On the front-end the designer should respond automatically with your theme.
