Apply SVG mask to specific layer

It would be super beneficial if it was possible to apply an SVG mask to just the "artwork" layer, instead of affecting the entire view. 

This way users can still edit background colors, add shadows etc while the artwork is still being masked to the product. Similar to how a layer mask works in Photoshop, it only affects the layer the mask has been applied too, not the whole canvas.
