Can you add more than 1 image to the overlay image as mask such as the badge pin in the demo. The system will only allow me to add a single image within the boundaries of the object?

Only if you use an upload-zone for this are you limited to one element, as upload zones can always only contain one element. If you use the image & text module to upload/ add there should be no problem in adding more.
